This course provides students with an understanding of the genesis, origin, evolution, functioning, and effectiveness of UN peacekeeping during the Cold War. It covers the Arab-Israeli conflict and missions in Korea, Lebanon, the Congo, India and Pakistan, the Middle East, Cyprus, and Africa. Military peacekeeping is discussed as a means to promote the peaceful settlement of disputes. Eleven lessons.
