In this lesson you will focus on the specific vulnerabilities of women during times of conflict and crisis. You will examine some effects that armed conflict can have on gender roles in communities, and how women are not only vulnerable during conflict, but they have also sometimes been able to take advantage of periods of conflict to develop new skills and or to assume leadership positions. The aim of this lesson is to introduce you to the complex gender dynamics that may be at work in Peace Support Operation mission sites, where local gender roles have likely changed in significant ways.
