The aim of these training materials is to provide police-contributing countries with a standardized training package that prepares their officers for duties in United Nations Peace Operations, including strategic guidance, United Nations policing concepts, protection of civilians, and human rights prior to their deployment. The training aims at turning capable police officers into competent peacekeepers who fulfil police aspects of United Nations Peace Operations mandates in accordance with Department of Peace Operations (DPO)/Department of Operational Support (DOS) principles and guidelines and their underlying international legal standards. Upon completing this course, police should be able to perform their police functions in an effective, professional, and integrated manner while demonstrating the core values and competencies of the United Nations. This training applies to all individual police officers (IPOs) selected by Member States who meet the selection criteria set by the DPO Police Division (PD).

"The course provided clear, structured learning on United Nations policing mandates, accountability, and community-oriented policing. I appreciated how the modules connected theory to practical application, covering logistics, human rights, and operational effectiveness. The systematic approach made complex concepts easy to master, and the emphasis on dignity, gender sensitivity, and accountability reflects the values I hold in professional and ceremonial leadership. I would recommend this course to colleagues for its authenticity, clarity, and comprehensive coverage.”"

"I found this course to be very engaging, informative, and highly relevant to both my personal and professional development. What I particularly liked about the course was the way it presented complex topics in a clear and structured manner, making it easier to follow and apply the knowledge in real-world contexts. The inclusion of practical examples and case studies added great value, as they helped me understand how the theories and concepts work in practice. I also appreciated the flexibility of the learning approach, which allowed me to study at my own pace while still maintaining a sense of guidance and structure. The materials were well-organized and comprehensive, and the assessment exercises were effective in reinforcing my understanding of the key issues. One of the strongest aspects of the course is how it highlights cross-cutting issues, such as gender perspectives, cultural sensitivity, and inclusivity, which are essential in today’s peace and humanitarian work. This not only deepened my knowledge but also made me more aware of the importance of applying these principles in field operations. Recommendations: To make the course even more impactful, I would suggest: Including more interactive elements, such as discussion forums or short video lectures, to enhance engagement and peer learning. Providing additional real-life field scenarios or simulations to strengthen the practical application of the concepts. Expanding further on gender-related issues and intersectionality to ensure participants are better equipped to respond to challenges inclusively. Overall, this course has been an excellent learning experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in strengthening their understanding and capacity in this field."
