Since its establishment, the UN has never experienced such degradation of international security, caused by intra – state conflicts, as during the immediate post- Cold war period. One of instruments used by the UN in order to prevent conflicts or to restore and to keep peace in disputed areas during this period was peace enforcement operations. The success of these operations was influenced by different factors. This study paper examined those factors that are considered as the most influential on the success of peace enforcement operations. The influence of different understanding of the concept of peace enforcement operations by different nations and capabilities of the UN main bodies to manage certain peace enforcement mission is examined as an important factor in this study paper.
