Military Observers need to be guided by a deep understanding of UN organizations and principles in order to operate efficiently and effectively on mission. MILOBS should also be capable of operating in a conflict or post-conflict area within a multi-national and multi-disciplinary environment while being respectful of different cultures and of professional ethics. Lesson 2 will present a clear picture of the background, functions, and, in particular, the role of the UN in peacekeeping activities.
