In the current peacekeeping environment, United Nations Military Observers (UNMO) are frequently unarmed and operating in remote areas with fragile security conditions. UNMO roles of monitoring and supervising ceasefires, truces, and armistice are evolving and adapting in this new complex operational environment. This comprehensive training package provides students with the UN pre-deployment requirements and materials specifically designed for UNMO, combining the Conceptual, Legal, and Operational Frameworks and mainstreaming the relevant aspects of the protection of civilians, gender, Security Risk Management, and improvised explosive device safety.

"The course broadened my knowledge on how valuable the UNMO are as a resource towards the achievement of the overall mission mandate. However, I suggest that topics on cultural awareness, protection of civilians, and gender in peacekeeping (UNMO) be included in fiture."
