About the Course: In an era dominated by information and communication technologies, the dissemination of false, inaccurate or misleading information, and hate speech has become an ever-present challenge in UN peacekeeping efforts. This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Misinformation, Disinformation, and Hate Speech Threats (MDH) and its potential threats to UN peacekeeping operations. It provides students with a conceptual framework for understanding MDH and an overview of the legal obligations surrounding MDH in peacekeeping operations. The course provides an operational framework for understanding the intricacies of the information terrain in a unit’s area of responsibility and wider mission area. These training materials are solely focused on MDH and their potential to threaten UN military and police personnel and their ability to conduct operations.
These materials are based on the Department of Peace Operations Reinforcement Training Package for UN Military and Police Units on Addressing Misinformation, Disinformation, and Hate Speech Threats in United Nations Peace Operations with permission from the Integrated Training Service.
