Lesson 4 introduces you to the various human rights enforcement mechanisms. It identifies and explains the roles of the different charter bodies as established in the UN Charter, including the General Assembly, Secretariat, Economic and Social Council, Security Council, and International Court of Justice. The lesson also indentifies and explains the roles of the nine existing human rights treaty bodies in the UN system, such as the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women and the Committee on the Rights of the Child, which are all created in accordance with the provisions of international human rights treaties.
