The lesson defines terms such as sexual violence, coercion, sexual exploitation, human trafficking, prostitution, and survival sex. It discusses the power structures and disparities that are particularly relevant during peacekeeping operations. With examples from reports and news sources, Lesson 7 provides disturbing evidence of how prevalent are the many forms of sexual violence and it sheds light on the conditions that make sexual violence more likely. In the final section of the lesson you are invited to examine several strategies to address and prevent sexual violence on peacekeeping missions.
