Lesson 1: The United Nations Peacekeeping Structure (FR Subtitles)
Video Transcript
Lesson 1 will introduce you to the basic elements of the Peacekeeping Mission, a useful instrument for peace and security. Although managed by the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, peacekeeping is a complex enterprise involving numerous United Nations organs, personnel from many different countries and backgrounds, and support from both local and international organizations. Coordination is vital, both before an operation and in the field. An operation is established by a resolution from the UN Security Council, but it must be reviewed and authorized by a number of General Assembly committees before the operation can be allocated a budget and troops.
