Greetings, and welcome to this Peace Operations Training Institute civil-military coordination distance-training course. My name is Cedric de Coning, and I’m a co-author of this course, together with Christopher Holshek. Using the 2010 UN-CIMIC Policy as its base, this course will introduce and provide you with an overview of United Nations civil-military coordination. Civil-military coordination is a crucial function in any United Nations peace operation because it provides the interface between the military component, the civilian component, the police, and all other external actors engaged in peace operations. Although this course was primarily written for UN military CIMIC officers, we think this course will be useful for civilian peacekeepers, police, humanitarian aid workers, and all who need to have a thorough understanding of the role of civil-military coordination in UN peace operations. If you have any questions regarding this course, please feel free to contact Christopher Holshek or myself via the student-teacher communication link at the bottom. Thank you for enrolling in this course, and good luck with your training.
