Sexual exploitation and abuse is a form of gender-based violence that affects women and girls at all stages of conflict, and it can seriously damage local populations, UN missions, and the Organisation itself. In Lesson 8, you will learn about the SEA problems that were detected among UN personnel deployed in peacekeeping operations and their subsequent consequences. The lesson also goes into detail regarding the measures that have been implemented in order to detect, prevent, manage, and punish those responsible for this serious violation of UN principles and rules.
