In Lesson 5 you will continue to study various enforcement mechanisms, and take a closer look at regional actors and the arguments that favour regionalism over universalism. The lesson will provide you with a structural overview of three major regional systems: the European system, the Inter-American system, and the African system, as well as contextualize the emergence of each system within the often difficult history of its corresponding region. The lesson also includes a discussion on non-state actors—intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations—explaining their increasing significance and presence on the world stage.
