Lesson One provides background information on the United Nations that will assist you in appreciating the organizational structure by which the high ideals and aspirations articulated in the Charter of the United Nations are pursued. This lesson will also provide details more specific to peacekeeping, including: the operational and tactical considerations of peacekeeping; the composition of peacekeeping operations; and the role of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations in managing peacekeeping operations.
