The lesson traces the history of the content of IHL with special attention given to the Hague Conventions and the Geneva Conventions. The lesson closes with a brief but important discussion on law and war, which considers the realistic applicability of international humanitarian law by analyzing the role of law in recent wars, such as the War on Terror and the First Gulf War.
