Dr. Paul Medhurst
Paul Medhurst served in his school CCF (RAF, then Commandos), and after school joined the London Metropolitan and Surrey Police forces, following which he entered The Queen's Regiment (V) as an Officer Cadet, later transferring to the Royal Military Police (V). He then served in a number of UN posts variously of a logistical, security and political nature on four continents—experiencing several fascinating cultures in the process, as well as war, gathering intelligence, leading a fire-fight, and negotiating release from armed elements.
He teaches courses at the American Military University, on the topics of Intelligence, Ethics, Covert Action, Assassination, Regional Threat Analysis, Terrorism and National Security, as a Ph.D. (University of Middlesex, UK) Full Professor. Medhurst has authored training courses for the Peace Operations Training Institute (formerly operating under the name “UNITAR POCI”) on the topics of Terrorism and Field Security for UN Peacekeepers. The measures outlined in the former are documented to have saved lives (UN Police in KFOR area), and the work was mentioned by the UN Secretary General in his report to the General Assembly in 2000 (Report A/55/179 - Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism).
Based in Vienna, Austria, his interests and hobbies include history, classical music, Intelligence, middle east affairs, shooting, explosives, and archæology, as well as membership of a number of societies.
