The aim of the course is to equip selected potential staff officers with the relevant knowledge and skills to enable them to work in a Mission or Sector Headquarters in any Peace Support Operation mission.
The course is two weeks long, run by the Staff (South African) and subject matter experts, and is based on 5 modules split as:
-- The PSO background
-- The Planning Process
-- Orders
-- The organization, functions and running of a joint civilian/military Headquarters on PSO
-- Confirmatory Exercise based upon UN Integrated Mission Planning Process
Lectures in module areas will be followed by syndicate sessions where problems will be posed to students for DS led discussion. Sufficient time will be allowed for students to prepare answers to issued problems. Throughout the course the scenario of the CPX will form the basis of problem setting and discussion, and for the planning process. Students will have fully read into the exercise scenario by the beginning of the CPX.
Number of Students per Course:
40 Military Rank Range: Captain to Lieutenant Colonel.
Other Government Departments: Civilian equivalent.
