The aim of this one-week course is to provide comprehensive training and preparation for the European Police Mission (EUPM) in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Police officers will have adequate training to ensure that they:
-- Are thoroughly informed about the EU-, UN-, OSCE Council decisions, mandates, structure of the mission and applicable law; and also have an overview of the civilian aspects of crises management and intention of the EU, UN, OSCE in the relevant crises management area;
-- Have specific knowledge of the mission area, the conflict and the overall situation. They are informed about the history, culture, climate, geography, living conditions and ethnic composition of the population and ethnic problems;
-- Are fully informed about their personal role, daily tasks and legal status. The composition and tasks of the mission, and have an overview on administrative regulations (hours of duty and leave, salary and allowances, social welfare and disciplinary matters);
-- Are practically prepared to cope with various mission situations whatever the mandate; and
-- Are adequately informed about the mission-specific language requirements/test to ensure that they are able to use the mission language effectively. They receive instruction on basic vocabulary of the local language.
Student criteria: successful participation in the Basic Police Officers Course.
