Welcome to Lesson 4. In Lesson 4, we look at how United Nations peace operations have evolved from traditional to the contemporary complex peace operations. We focus especially on the post-conflict peacebuilding phase of peace operations – and we look at all the different dimensions, actors, and stakeholders that are part of this type of UN peace operation. This includes things like DDR, or disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration. We look at SSR, or security sector reform, rule of law, human rights, protection of civilians, and all these elements of contemporary peace operations that a UN-CIMIC officer needs to understand and needs to contribute to in their larger work.
