This lesson discusses three interrelated, opposing pairs of concepts or choices that you may encounter when dealing with sex and gender issues in peace operations: distinction versus discrimination; equality versus sameness; and respecting local traditions versus promoting gender equality. The goal of this lesson is to provide you with practical guidelines on how to implement SCR 1325 and how to “take gender into account” when serving on a UN peacekeeping mission, or in any related field.
