Course description

This five-day course on International Refugee Law is offered in co-operation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The Course is open to all government officials and NGO personnel involved in the protection of refugees and displaced persons.

The objectives are:
- to promote and disseminate knowledge of international and regional instruments on the protection of refugees and displaced persons;
- to improve and harmonise their practical application and implementation at national level;
- to train government and NGO officials responsible for the organisation of national refugee law courses.

The programme concentrates on general subjects of refugee law as well as specific topics including the detention of asylum seekers and refugees, the 'exclusion clause', agents of persecution, temporary protection, gender-based violence, and protection in situations of mass-influx.
